Costa Rica has been known for years for having the best natural park system in Central America. You can see an abundance of birds and other wildlife in their natural environment, and even volcanoes.

Irazu is known as the highest volcano in Costa Rica standing in the center of the national park at a proud 3432 meters high. Both are incredible sights to see, especially from the lookouts right near the mouth of the active crater.

Arenal is still the most active volcano in the world. It sat dormant for hundreds of years the erupted in July 1968. To this day, it still bellows ash columns, sending red glowing lava over its edges.

The National Park in Corcovado is known as the wildest rainforest in Central America. Home to over 500 species of trees it attracts many tourists for its lush green jungle and abundance of wildlife. Many tourists find it hard to leave after just one day and end up opting to camp and hit the trails for another day.

Not only is it home to some of the most amazing birds, it has been reported to be home to rare large mammals as well. Jaguars, Tapirs and Pumas have been seen and this can be attributed to the remoteness and lack of population in the area.

Green sea turtles have called Tortuguero their breeding ground for many years. Out of the six marine turtles that call Costa Rica home for nesting, four of those return every year to Tortuguero. This says a lot for this amazing place due to the fact that there are only eight species of marine turtles worldwide.

The national park in Tortuguero is struggling as of late with locals wanting to put a road right through the park. Tortuguero National Park is home to most of the wildlife you find in Costa Rica such as monkeys, birds, sloths and reptiles. You will find about half of the reptiles and bird population in Tortuguero, which could be at risk if the road gets through.

Let’s not forget the amazing water activities available in Costa Rica. White water rafting, snorkeling, fishing and surfing are some of the tops on the list. Manuel Antonio is touted as the most beautiful beach; windsurfing at Lake Arenal is ranked #3 best location in the world for Tarpon fishing catch and release in Barra del Colorado.

Costa Rica attracts travelers from all over the world for its natural beauties yet Monteverde seems to be the most desired location when it comes to experiencing the canopy tours. You can fly high above the forest floors harnessed to a cable and zip line from tree to tree as one option. The other is to enjoy a slow leisurely walk along many of the amazing suspension bridges that makes Monteverde one of the most popular destinations in Costa Rica.
